On June 12, 2009, TV stations will cease broadcasting in analog and switch to all-digital signals. Analog TV sets not connected to cable, satellite, or other pay-TV service (in other words, TVs that use an antenna or rabbit ears for over-the-air TV) will need a digital converter box after June 12. Analog-only TVs connected to Grande Communications cable television service will continue to work after the transition and will not need a converter box. Analog-only TVs also will continue to work as before to receive low-power, Class A or translator TV stations and with gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players and similar products. The federal government is offering discount coupons for viewers who need to purchase converter boxes for analog TV sets. More information on the DTV transition is available at www.DTV.gov or by contacting Grande Communications at 866-2GRANDE. For discount coupons, visit www.dtv2009.gov or call 1-888-DTV-2009 (1-888-388-2009).

DTV and Antenna Users

There has been a lot of buzz recently about the Digital TV Transition (DTV). DTV is the federal requirement that all full-power television stations stop broadcasting in analog and switch to broadcasting in digital at midnight, June 12, 2009. What does this mean to you? If your analog TVs are connected to either a satellite or cable provider, you will continue to receive your programming after the DTV. But if you receive your broadcast signals through either “rabbit ears” or an antenna, you will no longer receive any programming after the DTV unless you recently purchased your TV and it is “digital ready”.

How do I keep watching TV?

In order to continue watching your favorite shows on broadcast TV, you have 3 options:

1. Sign up for service from Grande Communications.

With cable TV service from Grande, your existing analog TVs will not be affected by the DTV. You will be able to continue to view your favorite shows just like you do now. Call 877-6GRANDE or click here to sign up today.

2. Buy a new TV

If your current TV is more than 10 years old, it probably doesn’t have a digital tuner. But to be sure, check your owner’s manual. If your current TV doesn’t have a digital tuner, you can purchase a TV that does.

3. Purchase a digital-to-analog converter

You can keep your current analog TV and still receive the local broadcast networks if you purchase a digital-to-analog converter box. These boxes can be purchased from major electronics retailers like Circuit City and Best Buy. By purchasing this box, you will be able to continue to enjoy your favorite broadcast network shows and channels. You will need a digital-to-analog converter box for each analog TV that you own.

To help to offset the cost of these digital-to-analog converter boxes, the U.S. government will provide up to two coupons per U.S. household to be used towards the purchase of digital-to-analog converter boxes. These coupons are each worth $40.00. Although the cost of the digital-to-analog converter boxes has not yet been finalized, they are expected to cost between $55 and $75 each.

To order your digital-to-analog converter box coupons, visit www.dtv2009.gov or call 1-888-388-2009.
